About This Role
Work directly on Pawanax's Pawa-Med™ Intelligence Engine — fine-tuning medical foundation models on African disease datasets, building RAG pipelines for clinical knowledge retrieval, and pushing the frontier of AI diagnostics on the continent.
What You'll Do
- Fine-tune LLMs (MedGemma, LLaMA, Mistral) on African clinical datasets
- Build and optimize RAG pipelines for medical knowledge retrieval
- Implement model quantization for edge/low-resource deployment
- Design evaluation benchmarks for African healthcare contexts
- Collaborate with clinicians on clinical validation of AI outputs
- Contribute to research papers and technical blog posts
Requirements
- Currently pursuing BSc/MSc in Computer Science, AI/ML, or related field
- Strong Python skills (PyTorch, HuggingFace Transformers)
- Familiarity with LLM fine-tuning techniques (LoRA, QLoRA, PEFT)
- Understanding of NLP fundamentals and transformer architecture
- Passion for AI in healthcare and African market contexts
Nice to Have
- Experience with medical NLP datasets (MIMIC, PubMed)
- Knowledge of RLHF or DPO alignment techniques
- Contributions to open-source ML projects
- Familiarity with MLflow, Weights & Biases, or similar
